How to create change in your life


Okay lets look at that first list that you made. Your dream sheet, hopefully you did it or you are just wasting your time in mental masturbation pretending that you want to be successful but never doing anything toward being successful.

You may say that is pretty harsh Lonnie well the people who live in half million dollar houses didn't get there by just reading about how to be successful they actually did something about it. And if you want to have that sort of stuff you have to actually do some things also.

Okay now that the slackers are gone we can start to chisel out your new future. Take the list and if you haven't yet take another piece of paper and prepare to just write down everything again in an orderly and readable fashion now before you actually do this beside each thing on the list put an amount of time that you want to take to achieve it.

For instance you say I want to climb the highest mountain in the continental United States. 5 months Well you know it is going to take some stamina training and a few practice hikes before you figure out everything that you need to take with you on a two to three day hike.

Okay so you have everything sorted into how many months or how many years or how many days you are going to allow yourself to achieve each thing on the list. So if you have done this what you have now is a goal sheet. If you have done this and really did it with some thought you have just joined the elite group of about the top 5% of this countries population.

Okay now that you have a goals list you can take each goal and break it down into smaller chunks okay say you have a 5 year goal to be a pop star only; you don't have an instrument; you are embarrassed to sing in front of people and you don't play an instrument. Okay sounds pretty hopeless right? Wrong! You break it down into 3 year goal 2 year goal 1 year goal 6 month goal 3 month goal 2 month goal 2 week goal 1 week goal daily goal.

What do I mean? Okay your five year goal = become a pop star could break down like this you need to learn how to sing, play an instrument, keep rhythm, and dance. Well those you probably already thought of if this is your goal but you also have to have a manager, a producer, a record contract, a series of venues you have played to get to that level, a bus or plane to get to your concerts. etc....

Okay so you start putting each of these things on your list and a time frame for each of them and you have broken it down to this month you need to buy a guitar and take singing lessons. So that means your 1 or 2 week goal is to find the guitar to buy and to find a music or vocal instructor or likely both. Then you take it down to what can I do today to accomplish my goal? Well you could set aside some time to go to a pawn shop and look at used guitars and microphones or you could call around and find out how much voice lessons cost and get some references.

What ever your goals are just break them down into small steps I have heard that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a footstep. Well that is what we are talking about. Yes you can get anything you want if you just decide what it is and then work backwards from that to what can you do right now that will bring you closer to that goal. Write that down and then go do it.

So you don't want to be a rock star? That is okay it works the same way for anything you want to do. You see once you decide what it is that you really want then the rest is pretty simple you just break it down into smaller and smaller intermediate goals and finally to: what can I do today to move even one step closer to my goal. You see what ever you want to become is probably obtainable.
