NEW news about California Driver License Suspension.
Good news friends. I found out recently that if you are receiving General Relief (also known as "Welfare")
in Los Angeles, the State of California has recently instated a provision of some sort that possibly allows
you to get your drivers license back. When go to General Relief (GR) job orientation they will tell you to
go to your local Family support office and tell them that you are now reduced to General Relief and they
(Family Support) may start the process to reinstate your license!!!
They (LA county at least) also have
a program called Homeless court where they may drop most infractions and many misdemeanor
charges so you can get your license back also. Now you have to go to the job training workshops
and stuff like that and not get any new tickets or charges for a few months the way it was explained
to me. But Remember we are just trying to find a job and get our license back anyway so that is not
too much to ask. I know that the current situation is difficult but it is at least a significant
step back toward sensibility in government.
Seems they finally figured out some of what I have been saying for the past several years is true.
If you take away someones livelyhood in the form of their drivers license it costs the state
and federal government lots of money in taxes. Usually enough to offset much of the money they were
trying to collect in the first place.
It is unfortunate that some of our distinguished gentlemen don't have the time available to completely
think through legislation before they vote.
If they had thoroughly thought out the true ramifications they might have seen the inherent
problems involved in taking away a person's car or their drivers license.
It is in fact not very intelligent to take away ones license for almost any reason other
than the person being a menace to society; continuously driving drunk or otherwise endangering
the lives of other people in similar manner. The problem we encounter is that some politicians
do these things just because they think if they appear to be tough against deadbeat dads it will
make them look good to their districts when it actually only serves to prove just how little thought
they put into that piece of legislation.
It probably doesn't take a genius to figure out that if you remove a persons ability to work you eliminate
their ability to pay taxes and taxes are how bridges are built; roadways are maintained; governments are
maintained and politicians are paid. No taxes, no politicians.
it is just that simple. When they decided to impound the car of anyone caught driving with
a suspended license in California they effectively destroyed a small but significant part of their tax base since
everyone who lost their car likely wound up losing their job and eventually had to buy another car before they could
get a job paying as much as the one they lost so the entire time they are out of work or working lower paying jobs
the tax base suffers.
Another problem with this approach that many may not have considered is the fact that through this legislation
they have now succeeded in criminalizing a person who was previously only poor and not attempting to do anything
wrong or illegal. Now simple logic likely persuades us that if a person is poor and the way
you persuade them to get more money is to make it nearly impossible for them to eat or basically illegal to go to
work to make any money that that situation in and of itself is very likely going to breed contempt.
Worst of all it does nothing to address the basic problem that they simply do not make enough money to pay the
amount required.
.
How smart is it to take away
your drivers license?
